"Child Abuse and Neglect Recognition & Reporting for Child Care Providers"

Participants enrolled in this course will be able to define the various types of abuse and neglect, and identify signs and symptoms of the different types of abuse and neglect. This course is specifically geared toward child care providers in the state of Kansas. This course is instructor-led and interactive through discussions and assignments in course discussion boards.

Note: This course is approved by KDHE for 15.0 hours of inservice, by KACCRRA for 1.5 hours of early childhood CEUs, by KSNA for 1.5 hours of CNE credit, and by a variety of colleges for 1.0 hours of undergraduate and graduate credit.

Cost: $20.00 for home and center based child care providers, $40.00 for all other professionals.


 

"Child Abuse and Neglect Recognition & Reporting for Professionals"

Participants enrolled in this course will be able to define the various types of abuse and neglect, and identify signs and symptoms of the different types of abuse and neglect. This course includes all 50 state laws and statutes and is available for anyone in the United States interested in learning more about mandated reporting requirements. This course is instructor-led and interactive through discussions and assignments in course discussion boards.

Cost: $40.00


 

"Understanding Multiple Intelligences and Children's Learning Styles" 

Participants in this training will learn about the nine multiple intelligences, learn practical information on how to create education environments by applying activities that utilize the different learning styles as well as learn about their own personal teaching styles. This course is instructor-led and interactive through discussions and assignments in course discussion boards.

Note: This course is approved by KDHE for 15.0 hours of inservice, by KACCRRA for 1.5 hours of early childhood CEUs, and by a variety of colleges for 1.0 hours of undergraduate credit.

"Creating Positive Settings for Children and Families" 

Participants in this training will understand how children's "mental health" is affected by life events, culture, environment, biology, and relationships and that these aspects serve as roads to understanding and wellness. Participants will also learn how to create safe and nurturing learning environments by understanding the impact that room arrangements, labeling, and comfortable settings have on children and caregivers. Finally, participants will learn strategies for working with families to create a healthy atmosphere for children by using a method of knowing, informing, discussing with, and supporting families, tying everything together to create positive settings for children and families in child care. This course is instructor-led and interactive through discussions and assignments in course discussion boards.

“Cultural Competency for Working with Children”

Participants in this training will understand general concepts regarding cultural competency when working with children and families. Participants will be able to list at least three specific cultural norms, values, codes of conduct, traditions and child rearing practices of ethnic, cultural and other groups served by programs. Participants will also be able to reflect on cultural norms and codes of conduct in assessing an individual’s or family’s behavior as well as distinguish how discrimination, racism, sexism, ageism, homophobia and other forms of discrimination and oppression can impact individual and family development and functioning. Participants will define cultural child-rearing practices through researching different methods and discussing their findings. This course is instructor-led and interactive through discussions and assignments in course discussion boards.

“Understanding Children's Temperament”

Temperament differs from other individual attributes such as intelligence, motivation or interests. Those describe what people do and why they do it. Temperament refers to how they do it. Participants in this training will receive an overview of the nine temperament traits and the variety of influences on temperament styles. Challenging temperaments including the flexible, fearful, and feisty styles will be discussed. Participants will assess a child’s temperament as well as their own temperament to compare for a goodness of fit. This course is instructor-led and interactive through discussions and assignments in course discussion boards.

“Healthy Families America FSW Core Training (Part I)”

Healthy Families America direct service staff, program managers and supervisors are required to attend Healthy Families America Primary Training to obtain a comprehensive overview of the program, the Critical Elements and role specific responsibilities. This online course establishes a framework for understanding the program and instructs staff in their specific roles as Family Support Workers.

Healthy Families America Staff taking the online course will follow up with a scheduled 2-day face-to-face training (Part II) with their own state trainer. The online course and the face-to-face course are requirements together for the Healthy Families Family Support Worker Core Certification. This course will be led by an HFA certified instructor and has been reviewed and approved by HFA.

The online course is instructor-led and requires interaction through discussion boards, assessments, and email assignments. Course length is approximately 20.0 hours and is available for a duration of 4 weeks at a time with specific start and end dates.

Cost: $200.00

“Home Visitor Safety Training for Workers”

This course discusses the various safety measures one must take to ensure personal safety when conducting home visits. Section include home visitor preparation including checklists and sign-in/sign-out procedures, boundaries, building trust with families, aggressive clients, and incident reporting practices. This course is a self-paced course with no instructor. Students work on the course at their own pace. Course length is approximately 1 hour.

Cost: $20.00


 

“Strategies to Advocate for Needed Community Support of Adoptive Families: Training Curriculum for Adoptive Families”

This course discusses the various characteristics and values that are held by successful adoptive families, what the experiences and needs are for children who are adopted, and how to advocate for and access needed community support services in the areas of education, mental health, and self-care. This course is a self-paced course with no instructor. Students work on the course at their own pace. Course length is approximately 1 hour.

Cost: Free for foster and adoptive families, $20.00 for all other professionals.


“Best Practices in Community Based Support of Adoptive Families: Training Curriculum for Professionals Working with Adoptive Families”

This course discusses the various characteristics and values that are held by successful adoptive families, what the experiences and needs are for children who are adopted, what research has found to be the best practices to support adoptive families, and how to understand and enhance community capacity to support adoptive families among critical issues.  This course is a self-paced course with no instructor. Students work on the course at their own pace. Course length is approximately 1 hour.

“Therapeutic Opportunities with Adoptive Families: A New Perspective”  

This course discusses the various techniques that therapists can utilize when working with adoptive families and their children. This course is a self-paced course with no instructor. Students work on the course at their own pace. Course length is approximately 1 hour.

“Critical Issues of Methamphetamines – Kansas Based” 

This self-paced course will provide participants will information about methamphetamine and the related child endangerment issues. General information including signs someone is using meth, meth lab indicators, effects on children living in a meth environment, and safety for workers and home visitors will be covered. This course is a self-paced course with no instructor. Students work on the course at their own pace. Course length is approximately 2 hours.
